The above six slideshows showcase a senior seminar capstone project designed in Fall 2013. The project consisted of an empty warehouse located in Grand Rapids, MI to be remodeled into a mixed-use development space. Within the warehouse, we were required to incorporate each space we learned about over the last four years. The spaces chosen include: travel agency, cafe, whole foods market, dermatologist, pre-school, and three apartments.

The above restaurant was designed in the fall of 2011 as my first commercial project. The client was a culinary school that was purchasing the building to transform it into a teaching restaurant. We were given a motto, mine being "save the planet" on which the restaurant needed to be based. After some keyword generation, I arrived at the contradicting factors of fire and ice. Following the theme of a teaching restaurant, I designed the restaurant so that the students could cook directly at the tables-creating an interactive atmosphere between the student and guest.

SENIOR CAPSTONE 3D MODEL

This transport was designed to encourage its inhabitants to eat, live, and be healthy. The use of colors, materials, and effective space planning will help to further address the physical, mental, and social aspects of a healthy lifestyle. By establishing a connection between the natural and the built environment, the space will exhibit positive lifestlye choices. Retratctable solar panels will be in place to allow the small space to feel larger. Different stations within the transport will allow participants to be interacive with health and professionals, while guiding and organizing them through the space. All in all, the design of the space will be balanced using rectilinear materials, lines, and patterns on the interior and exterior, creating a cohesiveness amongst all spaces that results in participants eating, linving, and being healthy.

Research was done on color psychology, small space design, and green design in order to complete this project.

This project was completed as a partner project with Kelly Bodnar.
